i HATE bees!!!
so late last week we noticed a few bees buzzing around our mailbox. we don’t have bees around our house… but i figured, eh, it’s summer, someone must have been cleaning yard and maybe they’re just buzzing around, no big. but it got to the point on saturday that you wanted to RUN to the mailbox and then come sunday, you couldn’t get within about 5 feet of the mailbox. turns out they were nesting in the board of water supply meter box below the mailbox.
but here’s the catch – you couldn’t see the name of whoever owned that box because of the overgrowth and also because we had one of our trash cans on top of it… so in the swarm, I (that’s right, MEEEEEEE… and yes, everyone else was home at the time!) had to step in and pull that trash can off and then read the name embossed on the cover. the only time i’ve ever gotten stung was when i stepped on one in kindergarten so i really don’t know what a sting feels like and i really don’t ever care to know!! i called the water supply people, and of course, it didn’t qualify as an emergency (but let me tell you it was an emergency to us!) so they would send someone out monday.
monday afternoon they came and opened up the box to see this:

the entire inside wall was lined with bees and you could hear them buzzing from a few feet away. and apparently this isn’t the biggest one they had to deal with, they said they had another one where the entire box was their hive. we only got a hive going in the corner. but more than enough for us. and the only thing we can do is leave it open and in about a week they’ll clear out on their own because they don’t like the sun and the elements. hope they don’t nest anywhere else close to the house. let me reiterate… i HATE bees!!!
and on another update, we’ve gotten almost 1/2 of the garage cleared out, now to finish that and then clean it out and then move me in!!! if we keep up this pace (which i expect we will because J has a short schedule this week) then we’ll be moving in by the end of the week. SOOOOO excited and ready to get back to scrapping!! and it’s nice to be blogging again. missed you my blog (and what few followers i have!)
lovies, =o) kel

Yikes!!!
Holey moley!!! That’s a lot of bees! I had a bee problem in my walls a few years ago when I lived in a townhouse – the neighbors kept complaining of loud vibrations and we found the culprits swarming in the walls between our two units. They were coming in through my vents until Mr. Exterminator came.
WOW Kel I’m so feeling you, nasty!!!
Oh Kel! You poor thing! Hope they get rid of those bees for you! Hope too that things start looking up for you real soon! Big hug!
