Flowery Friend

Hi Friends!! I’m blogging over at the CutCardstock blog today! 🙂 This was another really fun card to make because I got my fingers inky AND I got to break out the heat gun, which I rarely get to do these days!!

Today’s card is made using some beautifully bright colors from the Pop Tones Cardstock line and the Basis Cardstock line.

I started with a scrap piece of 65# Pop Tones in Sweet Tooth White and used a pretty flower stamp and my Versamark ink pad to stamp all over the piece.

Then I used some clear embossing powder and sprinkled it all over.  Okay, it came out as a pour, not so much a sprinkle.

Then I used a clean, stiff, but small bristled brush to dust off as much excess embossing powder as I could.

And then used the heat gun to melt it all together. Doing this allows me to create a resist background to color all over!!

Then I used my distress inks and blender tools to color up the background.

It came out so pretty! I matted it on more 65# Pop Tones in Sweet Tooth White and then 65# Lemon Drop Yellow cardstocks.

I paired it with an orange base from the Basis Cardstock line, some 80# Basis Orange cardstock.

The last thing I did was add some yellow twine and tie a bow, and then stamp on (and emboss again, yay!) the sentiment. I wanted something bold and fun, but definitely something that matched the flowers in the background.

And just because it’s so amazing to watch, here’s a short clip of the embossing powder melting!

And the finished card. So happy, just love how it came out!

Best Friends w/CCS

Hi Friends!! I’m blogging over at the CutCardstock.com blog!!

This was a SUPER FUN card to make!!! I saw a Jennifer McGuire post the other week about using up cardstock strips to make card backgrounds and thought this would be perfect to try! I simplified mine, of course, but it was super easy to put together and used so little of the Pop Tones Cardstock that I can make tons more!!

I started by cutting down some scrap Pop Tones Cardstock into 1/2″ strips. For this card, I used Berrylicious, Blue Raspberry, and Black Licorice. I also pulled a scrap piece of paper (can be whatever you have on hand because it all gets covered up, front and back!) and cut it down to 4″ x 5.25″.

I cut a piece of Whip Cream Pop Tones Cardstock to 3.75″ x 4.5″ and then traced it on one side of the card. I used pencil here because I didn’t want to accidentally mark up the Whip Cream piece.

But as you can see, I then used pen to roughly go over it… it’s on the backside of the card so it doesn’t really matter how perfect your lines are. Just make sure that the pen you choose doesn’t bleed through *just in case*.

I used the Honeycomb Dot Adhesive roller and put adhesive all over my card and then started laying down the strips!

It doesn’t matter what order you go in, just make sure that you cover all the edges! I chose to go Blue Raspberry, then Black Licorice, then Berrylicious, and then start that pattern all over! Make sure to trim your pieces off as you go to save some strips!

And this is where the $$ saver comes in!  The reason we traced over the back with pen is to see how much of the actual card front was going to be covered. Because if you’re just covering it up with something else, no sense waste pretty colors behind it where no one can see!! Use the light to see how much you actually need to cover and save the rest!!

And because you’re lining up your pieces snug against each other, it should really be a piece of cake to make sure it all lines up at the end! But when you’re putting your pieces down, make sure to go a little over the line just in case you trace crooked lol!

Next I stamped my sentiment using so pretty (and matching!) Distress Inks. I’m new to stamping with Distress Inks, so this was super fun for me!! Unfortunately, one of my cubes is leaking (or something!) so I unknowingly got ink on my finger and left that smudge on the top right as I slid my magnet off my card.  BOO people, I can’t say that enough.  BOO.

And then when I stamped the rest of the sentiment, I managed to make another smudge. Apparently I’m all about the ink smudges today!! So once again I say BOO.  BOOOOOOO!!!!! haha!

But that’s okay!! And I really want to share that it’s okay to make mistakes! You don’t even have to throw it out or start all over sometimes! My fix: stick a cardstock banner/strip over the smudges and make it look like you MEANT for the card to come out like this!!  haha!!

Mistakes are totally fixable. And make for some pretty cute cards in the end lol!!  The great thing is that I have so much leftover strips that I can make a few more!! For the record, I cut 8 strips that were 4.25″ long and have FIVE of each color leftover + some scrap pieces big enough to use, and that includes the two black banners/strips. That means I used less than 3 strips of each color to make the card.

Josh Watermelon w/CSD

Inspirational Blog

I’m blogging over at the Crafty Sentiments Designs Inspirational Blog today!  This adorable little lad is Josh – Watermelon and he is just perfect for the start to our summer!  And he makes me so excited to start summer!  Little A just finished on Friday, so our family is officially on summer break!

He was a lot of fun to color up with my Copics – I really enjoyed coloring up his bricks!  And that watermelon… we just had to dump a whole bunch of watermelon because I waited too long to cut it and it got overripe and kinda mushy… so sad!!  But at least he gets to enjoy it!!

Thanks for stopping by and see you again soon!

9 card tutorial (video) w/CCS

First off I want to say hello to all my friends (and soon-to be friends!) visiting me today!  Life has been crazy busy this year and I had totally lost my mojo at the beginning of this year… hence the sparse blog and infrequent posts.  But I have successfully closed a HUGE chapter in my life, serving as my campus’ Student Government President for 2 years, and am happy to move on.  Well, not totally closed and not totally moved on as I am still helping out where I can but it is no longer my primary responsibility (or one of them) and that is a HUGE burden off my shoulders.  And I know I say burden, but it was a burden I was happy to bear for the time that I did it, but I’m happy to move on and confident that what I worked so hard to establish (new advisor, new senate, new rules!) will be continued and just… things will be okay!!

Things are still super busy for me, as I was mis-advised (told me I had 5 classes to graduate when I actually have TEN) so my class schedule is jam-packed, and I am working full-time on top of that (and on top of everything home and family too!) but I’ll be okay!  And now that there’s no SG, I can spend my non-studying time on crafts instead of legislation and committee reports and bleh!!!!!! haha!!

Anywhoo, just wanted to say thanks again for sticking with me, and I hope to have some fun new (and regular!) posts for you… but don’t be surprised if I disappear come midterms and finals this summer and fall!!  haha!!  And now onto your regularly scheduled post!

Hi Friends!! I’m blogging over at the CutCardstock Blog today!! We just celebrated Mother’s Day here in the States, so I wanted to share this super fun floral card set with you because the colors and patterns made me think of mom-ish cards!!  Note that I didn’t actually make “mom” cards because we’re past the holiday lol!!

I used the Shimelle True Stories 6×6 paper pad and wanted to make sure to try to use up all that I can from it!!  I’m totally inspired by Kristie’s 6×6 pad mentality, where she tries to use up the ENTIRE pad in an extended crafting session… I am not quite to using the entire pad yet but I think I did pretty well with these 4 sheets, ending up with 9 super fun cards!!  I also used (5) 8.5″x11″ sheets to make these cards but did have a whole bunch of scrap leftover.

The tutorial is at the end of the post… it’s my first ever Youtube video/video tutorial, so be kind! I’d appreciate any suggestions to improve!!  And I really had fun making it so please give me your suggestions so I get better from now on!

The first three I made were congratulations cards using these squares:

I also made two cards with my leftover scraps! Those skinny strips were definitely worth saving!!

The last 4 cards are sitting blank on my desk because I haven’t decided what sentiment I want to go on them yet!  But I am so happy with how this set came out and think I might definitely want to have a go at this again!!!

Here’s the video, I hope you enjoy it!! (and help me come up with a better title next time lol!)

Disney Mini-Albums w/CCS

I can’t believe it’s the end of the month!! Where has the time gone? I know my time has gone to the end of the semester and finals… but luckily I still manage to carve out some crafty time for myself once in a while too!!  Like today… I’m blogging over at the CutCardstock.com blog!!

I just found out that my niece is going to visit her sister in Florida next week!! My Florida niece is working at Disney World, and she gets to hang out in character all the time!! What fun for her!! So my project to share today are these matching mini-accordion albums perfect for holding a handful of Instax pictures!

This beautiful glitter paper and glitter cardstock were actually my inspiration for this project.  I’ve been hoarding this Disney-inspired paper since it came out, and now that it’s been reimagined and done a 3rd time, I figured it was time to do something with it!!  haha!!

The first thing I did was cut down some scrap 12″ x 12″ paper  into 5″ x 12″ strips, and then fold them into thirds.  I also cut down some Black Glitter Paper and Gold Glitter Cardstock into 3.25″ x 4.25″ mats, perfect for these pocket cards.

I overlapped one panel of the white strips, and then glued them together.  This made a nice mini-album of 5 panels on each side.

I cut down some 12″ x 12″ paper into 4″ x 5″ pieces and then glued them down to all the panels.

On the very back panel, I used some sticky to center my ribbon.  It’s okay that the sticky is bigger than the ribbon, because I knew I was going to cover it up with a pocket card, which I matted with one of the Black Glitter Paper pieces.

The last thing I did before tying up the album was to add the front pocket card (mounted on the Gold Glitter Cardstock piece) and then add some more pocket cards to every-other panel.  Here’s the front side of the album:

And the back side of the album:

And what it looks like all tied up!  I made sure to leave the ribbon extra long because I know the album will get thicker as they glue in their pictures.

Thanks so much for stopping by!!  I absolutely love how the glitter paper I used just added that little extra pop to these albums!!  Make sure to pop on over to the CutCardstock blog to see what else the DT has been up to and stay up to date with the latest news and sales on the CutCardstock Facebook Page!!
